Stair na Gaelscoile Phortlaoise

Bunaíodh Gaelscoil Phortlaoise sa bhliain 1998 i gClub na nOigifigeach Priosúin. Ba í Múinteoir Áine an chéad phríomhoide agus bhí ceathrar scoláire déag faoina cúram aici.

Go gairid ina dhiaidh sin bhog an scoil go hIonaid CLG Phortlaoise (áit a bhfuil an t-Ionad Barrfeabhais fé láthair.)

Sa bhliain 2005 bhogamar go Gort na bhFraoch agus chaitheamar trí bliana ann sara gcuireadh go Bóthar Mhóin Reatha muid lámh le Coláiste Phortlaoise.

Bhogamar go Cnoc an tSamhraidh sa bhliain 2013 agus i ndeireadh thiar thall, bhí ár lóistín féin again.

Is suíomh álainn í le foirgneamh 16 seomra-ranga, halla mór agus páirc imeartha uileaimsire agus táimíd an-bhródúil aisti.

Faoi láthair, tá breis is 380 dalta cláraithe sa Ghaelscoil agus thart fé 30 duine ag obair ann idir múinteoirí, cúntóirí, rúnaí agus glantóirí.

Gaelscoil Phortlaoise was established in 1998 in the Prison Officer’s club Portlaoise. Múinteoir Áine was the first principal of the school, which had an initial enrolment of 14 pupils.

Shortly after that, the school found itself in temporary accommodation on the old Portlaoise GAA grounds (Now the LOETB Centre of Excellence).

In 2005 the school moved to the Heathfield housing estate on the Dublin Road before making the move across town to the Mountrath Road beside Portlaoise college.

In 2013 we moved to the Summerhill campus, a place we could finally call home. Here we have a purpose built 16 classroom building with fantastic facilities, including a sport’s hall and an all-weather playing field. 

There are currently over 380 pupils enrolled in our school with a staff of approximately thirty people, between teachers, SNAs, secretaries and cleaner/caretakers.
